I had originally created this quilt for The Cherrywood Challenge, which limited artists to the use of only their fabrics, but painting the fabric was allowed. I took the liberty of designing my leaves and painting them, creating a welcoming place for the Monarch butterfly to land. I also hand-painted and thread stitched the flower, again using paints on the white fabric. A family situation prohibited entering my piece in their show but this piece did win a first place ribbon in the Vero Beach Art Museum Annex for fiber.
