For the Beauty of the Earth

The lovely hymn “For the Beauty of the Earth” is a favorite of mine. I designed this quilt with 49 blocks to represent the music and lyric syllables of the hymn: 7x7 blocks = 6 lines of the song plus one “amen” line. The quilt blocks follow the guitar chords of the hymn (key of G, chords C, D, D7, G), with colors assigned to each note (A=yellow, B=orange, C=blue, D=Green, E=red/pink, F#=brown, G=purple), and each block uses only the colors of that chord. The scene of mountains and sunset expresses the beautiful poetry of the hymn, and the colors show the harmony of all the colors, all the notes, blending together. The birds in flight represent the melody of the first line of the hymn.
