On a trip to Japan, I spotted three ladies admiring handbags. I snapped a photo and later enjoyed their focused expressions. This piece is entirely made by hand – the applique, the quilting, and the embroidery. Fabrics are commercial (and upcycled from clothing) cottons and rayons, and silk. Colors were limited due to the abundance of pattern and texture, adding a sense of calm to a busy market scene.
